Current mood: happy

Things are looking up!
Well the first year is now over and once the dust settles everything is pretty much even.
So for a first year in buisness breaking even at the end of it is no small feat. Never mind that we just got word that our rent is now 400.00 bucks cheaper per month. A very nice surprise. The rent there is our #1 expense. It is pricey but the location is prime so I am loathe to move.
But things are definitely looking up. We now have an account with Cas Iberia (one of the best sword dealers in the US) so not only can we bring in 10000.00 samurai swords (no, you read that right) but we can bring in VERY good quality swords that are designed to be used in re-enactment (some of these people practice with blunt steel swords).
So overall I'm a happy guy these days. I have the BEST employees a guy could ask for and the community is growing. Word seems to be spreading that we are open. (despite the best efforts of SOMEONE who will remain nameless).
So yeah, color me contented.

First off, absolute congratulations :)

I completely understand the triumph you must be feeling at a break even first year. Winnipeg is a brute to small businesses, so that is no small feat right there!

Also glad that word seems to be spreading. I wish you another year of growth!

Thanks man.
We've had some setbacks and learned some important and expensive lessons but those are behind us now. I hope.
I don't like to dwell on "might have been's" so I won't.

Awesomeness. As the #1 consumer of my spare cash, I hope it only gets better for you.

I'll have to drool over the CAS catalog with you sometime when you're in.

You got it!
It hasn't arrived yet and I thought we'd have it by now.
Oh well I guess I have to call Star there and make sure it's on the way. (she's our rep and has THE SEXIEST southern accent I've ever heard. If this girl has never done phone sex then she's missing out on a million dollar opportunity. She'd be making money hand over fist!)

Hmmm, two pretty girls vying for the same job. I see a contest involving a kiddie pool, two gallons of hot oil and bikini's in my future!
Ah yes, life is GOOOOOD!

Actually...
We WILL need someone for the summer. James is taking the whole summer off so if you're interested (I know it's a long way away but still...) let me know.
I'll dig out your resume, It's in the office someplace.
Drop me an email at pbedard@hydro.mb.ca and we can talk about it.
(no hot oil, honest...)

Good on you.

Oh yeah and FUCK SOMEONE. FUCK HIM IN THE EAR, the fat hairy bastard. I've never forgiven him for following me around his shop with a walkie talkie when I was 13 and had $300 worth of minatures in my hand, and a hard-earned $500 in my wallet. He pissed me off that I left it sitting in the middle of the aisle and walked out the door and haven;t been back to his shop in 20 years.

You know, over the years I've heard more stories along those lines about HIS store than any other kind. I have yet to hear a story that begins with "oh I like that place, they're really nice..."
So yeah, that's the plan...

Oh, I can assure you that "Someone" is hated the world over...

I went to Torcon 3 in Toronto in 2003, and the badges at said convention listed where people were from. Over the course of said con, at least half a dozen people from various international locales came up to me and ranted about past wrongs committed towards them by Someone, just because my badge indicated I was from Winnipeg.

When random guys from Turkey have held on to past grievances against you, you have some problems.

And don't even get me started on Keycon's budget management...

Sorry to hear about it. And it did'nt even have anything to do with you in the first place.
Sigh, and stuff like that just rolls off his back too. As my wife once said "gee, he's been a weasel for so long, you'd think he'd be better at it..."

As for Keycon's budget management, how do you think HIS store has stayed open this long?

Along with my money, your store consumes my time - which is frankly much more valuable to me right now.

CampOut really is the "Cheers" of gaming stores. I spent a nice afternoon last week just hanging with Clint and working on a figure.

Thanks.

P.S. Please get me a quote on a steel jitte from CASIberia. My iaido sensei expressed a desire for one.

It's what we wanted all along. So many people don't understand that a gaming store MUST have space available for... wait for it... gaming!
HE's come into the store and given us shit for it. No lie. It's almost like the fact that we support the games we sell and make sure that our customers, new and old, have some place to play is a personal effront to him. Wierd.

And you're more than welcome.

As for the Jitte, here is the page on the Cas Iberia site;

Looks very nice to me, but I'm certainly no expert.
The price is in USD so Canadian would be approx 69.00 Canadian plus taxes and duty. If we get a minimum order together (which won't be a problem) the shipping is free. I love this company!
